Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the development of migrants as political actors and the appropriation of new media technologies for activism and social change. Through an analysis of digital media practices of migrant activists in Marea Granate in recent years, the concept of transnational activism will be developed in order to provide a new approach to media and migration studies. From a distinctly ethnographic perspective, the methodology includes in-depth interviews with Marea Granate activists and field notes collected through participant observation at the first international Marea Granate meeting, held in Berlin in May 2017.
