Abstract

This article analyzes the digital narratives about journalists’ emotional wellbeing in the United Kingdom and Spain. Focusing on TikTok and using a comparative qualitative content analysis of material published on this platform, it explores personal narratives, representations of work-related stress, and discourses on mental health. The methodological approach is mixed, combining automated data collection techniques, AI-assisted content analysis, and statistical and network analysis to examine narratives about stress, pressure, and job insecurity in journalism as shared on TikTok in Spain and the UK. The results reveal that cultural and professional contexts influence how journalists express their emotional state. Social media platforms also function as spaces for both professional and personal expression, offering opportunities to reflect on the factors that affect the emotional wellbeing of those working in journalism.
